The Camellia japonica 'Tricolor' (also known as the Sieboldii camellia) is a highly prized evergreen shrub celebrated for its striking, candy-striped blooms. Each semi-double flower features a whimsical, hand-painted blend of creamy white, soft pink, and deep carmine-red streaks surrounding bright yellow stamens. Because it blooms from late winter into early spring, it brings dynamic color to the landscape when most other garden plants are completely dormant. Typically reaches 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide. Best grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 7–9. Prefers morning sun and afternoon shade or filtered, dappled shade throughout the day. It needs protection from harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can easily scorch its glossy leaves.
