The
nerve plant (
Fittonia albivenis), also known as the mosaic plant or painted net leaf, is a
low-growing tropical evergreen perennial famous for its striking, delicately veined foliage. Native to the tropical rainforest floors of South America, this compact houseplant usually reaches only 3 to 8 inches in height but can spread beautifully up to 18 inches. It features deep green leaves intricately laced with contrasting veins that come in silvery-white, vibrant pink, or bold red, mimicking a miniature nervous system.
Beyond its dramatic look, the nerve plant is famously known for its theatrical "fainting" spells—wilting flat over the side of its pot when dry, only to perk up completely within a few hours of receiving a thorough watering
