Peacock Ginger (Kaempferia spp.) is a shade-loving, tuberous-rooted tropical perennial known for its, often, stunning variegated leaves and low-growing, groundcover habit (4–12 inches tall). Native to Southeast Asia, it produces small, fragrant, pink, white, or violet flowers in summer. These deciduous plants are ideal for USDA zones 8–11, thriving in moist, well-drained, shaded, and woodland areas, and are often used as a substitute for hostas.
