The Black Mission fig tree (Ficus carica 'Mission') is a vigorous, large, and long-lived, sun-loving cultivar introduced to California by Spanish missionaries in 1768. It produces two heavy crops of dark purple-black, sweet, strawberry-fleshed figs annually. These figs are versatile for fresh eating, drying, and canning, and the trees are highly adaptable and heat-tolerant, thriving in USDA Zones 7-11.
